道祖神社(Doso-jinja Shrine)

この神社はＪＲ船橋駅南側の繁華街の路地にあり、道祖神を祀っています。

道祖神とは路傍の神であり、もともとは、悪霊や災いが村に入るのを防ぐために石造に祀られた民間信仰の神でした。

This Shinto shrine is located at an alley in the shopping district on the South side of JR. Funabashi station, and enshrined Doso-jin.

Doso-jin is a deity at roadsides, and originally it was a folk belief deity enshrined in stone statues to prevent evil spirits and disasters from coming in villages.

常盤神社(Tokiwa Shrine)

 船橋の常盤神社は船橋大神宮の境内社です。
現在のこの社殿や神門は2015年に再建されたものです。

Tokiwa Shrine in Funabashi is a subsidiary shrine in Funabashi Daijingu Shrine precincts.
Current main hall and shrine gate were rebuilt in 2015.

欅の生命力(vaitality of zelkova)

船橋大神宮の社務所のそばに一本の欅の木があります。
この木は戊辰戦争の折に、大砲の砲撃により傷ついて枯れかかりましたが、脇から出た新芽が新しい幹に育ちました。
今でも、このように健在です。

There is a Japanese zelkova tree by the shrine office of Funabashi Daijingu.
I hear that the tree was damaged by cannonball in the Boshin War(1868-1869) and was dying, but that a new bud came out from the side of the trunk and grew up to new trunk
Now, the tree is still alive as you can see in these photos.

船橋大神宮からの眺め(View from Funabashi Daijingu)

船橋大神宮の裏参道からの本町通りの景色です。
二の鳥居から一の鳥居までは険しい石段になっています。
昔は、この参道から海が見えたそうです。

A view of Honcho-dori Street from the rear approach of Funabashi Daijingu.
There are steep stone steps between the second Tori gate and the first one.
Long ago, they could see the sea from the approach.

灯明台の空(Sky above the Lightouse)

船橋大神宮にあるこの古い灯明台は明治28(1895）年まで稼働していました。
下から見上げてみると、青い空と白い雲を背景として実際よりずっと高く見えるように感じました。

This old lighthouse which stands in the precincts of Funabashi Daijingu shrine worked until 1895.
When I looked up the lighthouse, I felt that it looked much taller than it actually was against the blue sky and white cloud.

船橋大神宮(Funabashi Daijingu Shrine)

船橋大神宮は長い歴史のある神社であり、地元の船橋の人たちから大変親しまれています。
正式な名称は　"意富神社(おおひじんじゃ)" といいます。
正月には、多くの人たちが初詣に訪れます。

Funabashi Daijingu Shrine is a Shinto shrine with a long history, and has been loved by local people in Funabashi.
Formal name of the shrine is "Ohi Jinja".
In every new year, so many people make the first shrine visit of the year at the shrine.
